Well, I did not know what to expect with playing a game like Spaceland. I mean, it sounds like an area in Disneyland where they would put the Star Wars attractions. However, Spaceland is essentially a turn-based strategy game that has its roots in science fiction.
I am going to just get this out of the way and say that I am going to give this a low review, and I am biased. Why am I so biased? Well, I’ve never been a big fan of turn-based games. To me, these things are boring as you spend a lot of time wondering what you should do, like chess. Yeah, not a fan of that old-school type of games.
However, I found that I didn’t want to stop playing Spaceland once I had begun, and stopped only out of necessity. The premise feels like something out of James Cameron’s Aliens, that is, you arrive on an alien world and something is just not right. Then you discover there are some seriously bad aliens who want to eat you alive.
From there, it is about doing tasks in specific buildings playing different characters doing different things. It is all about advancing to the next square in the building, and there is a story involved here that I am told has some “unexpected plot details”.
